We will contact you with information on stock availability and detailed distribution/receiving procedures.

Pre-application Checklists

  • Please read through the document “Handling Precautions for Immunodeficient Rats” before the application.
  • The fee for immunodeficient rats is as follows
    • JPY¥18,400 per animal for academic research institutions
    • JPY¥36,800 per animal for non-academic institutions
  • The fee for Cre-driver rats/reporter rats is as follows
    • JPY¥6,400++ per animal for academic research institutions
    • JPY¥12,800++ per animal for non-academic institutions
      • The fee for Cre-driver rats/reporter rats varies depending on the housing conditions. Please contact us for more details.
  • Please note that shipment fees are not included in the above-stated price, and the user will cover all shipment fees.
  • The use of the desired strain must be annotated in the submitted animal experiment/research proposal, and these documents must be approved by your institution’s animal experiment/research committee.
  • In case of desired strain is genetically modified, the relevant documents in handling genetically modified bioresources and the relevant experimental proposal must be approved by your institution before receiving the distributed rats.

Distribution Procedures

Please complete the following documents below and send them via postal mail:

  1. Order Form for distribution (1 copy)
  2. Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) (2 copies)
    • A copy will be returned to you once it is signed, and please keep it for the record. 

Shipment

  • The schedule will be informed once the shipment preparation is finished.
  • The rats will be shipped from CLEA Japan, Inc.
  • Upon receiving the rats, please immediately confirm their conditions and send us a signed receipt by fax or PDF.
  • The University of Tokyo will issue an invoice.

About Research Outcomes

The National BioResource Project - Rat is committed to improving the quality of rat resources by enriching strain information. Any publication and/or research outcome from the provided strains is critical for the continuation of NBRP-Rat.

In case of publication, please kindly inform us with the information of author(s), title, journal, etc., by email.
This information will be updated on the news page and listed on the publication page of our website.

When composing the manuscript, please kindly include our information in the acknowledgments section.
Also, please state the NBRP Rat Number with the strain name, if it is possible.

    “(Strain name) rats were supplied by the National BioResource Project - Rat, The University of Tokyo (Tokyo, Japan).”
  • Acknowledgements
